Air ride technology
Instant air ride towing for your pickup & trailer. Built in airbag cushions ride & absorbs road shock
Stop destroying your trailer and cargo.
Every bump, pothole, and expansion joint sends a violent jolt through your trailer frame, damaging cargo and wearing out your truck. Shocker Air Ride Hitches absorb that punishment at the coupling, before it reaches your trailer.
Pull a heavy bumper-pull trailer behind a rigid steel hitch and every bump on the road punches straight through. Frost heaves, expansion joints, and hard stops send a jolt up into the truck, back into the trailer, and into whatever you're hauling, and over time that pounding wears on all three. The HD Max Black 20K sits at the top of Shocker's bumper-pull line and is built to soak up that shock. A heavy-duty air spring rides between the truck and the trailer, so things settle down for you, your rig, and your cargo. It's rated for 20,000 lbs of trailer weight and up to 2,000 lbs of tongue weight, which covers the heaviest trailer most people will put behind an F-250 or RAM 2500-class three-quarter-ton (class V receiver). It runs a 2-1/2-inch receiver on a beefier-wall HD chassis and wears a textured matte-black powder coat, so one-ton owners get the capacity and the look without giving up either. In stock in Canada and ships direct, no border wait.

How Shocker HD Air Ride Works
20K-Rated Air Spring
The air bag is a heavy multi-ply rubber spring built to carry up to 20,000 lbs of trailer while it soaks up the road shock that would otherwise beat on your truck and your load. It's the same proven spring as the HD Red, finished to match the matte-black chassis.
Dial In the Ride for Any Load
A heavy bumper-pull trailer can swing more than 1,000 lbs between empty and loaded, and a fixed hitch rides the same harsh way no matter what's on it. Pump air in for a max-weight run, bleed it back off for the deadhead home. The HD airbag gives you a wider usable pressure range than the 14K, so there's more room to tune it.
Reinforced HD Chassis
It keeps the same external 8-hole pattern, so every Shocker ball mount still bolts right up, but the steel is thicker-walled and the welds are reinforced to handle 20K loads. The whole frame wears a textured matte-black powder coat.
Rocker-Arm Pivot
Shocker's down-and-back cushioning rides on a single pivot, with no slides, rollers, or stacked airbags to wear out, even at HD loadings. Fewer moving parts taking the stress means it holds up longer.
Why Buyers Choose HD Max Black
The top of the core line, heavy-duty and premium-finished at the same time.
- The heaviest bumper-pull capacity Shocker makes, 20,000 lbs GTW
- Textured matte black shrugs off scratches better than glossy or red finishes
- Matches the blacked-out factory trim on Ford, RAM, Chevy, and GMC one-tons
- A 3-inch receiver option lines up with dual-rear-wheel factory hitches
- Works with all 20+ Shocker ball-mount attachments, black-matched where offered
- No trade-off between capacity and looks
HD Max Black vs. Max Black 14K, What's Different
Same finish family, different capacity tier:
Heavier Airbag and Walls
The 20K-rated HD airbag and reinforced steel walls take you past the 14K tier up to 20,000 lbs GTW with 2,000 lbs of tongue weight. This is the one to grab when your loads run heavier than 14k.
Three-Inch Receiver Option
You can get the HD Max Black with a 3-inch receiver for dual-rear-wheel one-ton trucks, a size the Max Black 14K doesn't come in.
Flippable Drop / Rise Geometry
A trailer that rides nose-up or nose-down throws too much weight onto one axle and wears its tires and bearings unevenly, so getting the height right matters. This Shocker HD Max Black Air Hitch & Clevis Mount ships with a 3-1/2" to 7-1/2" Drop ball-mount setup. Most Shocker ball mounts are reversible, so you can flip the mount to turn drop into rise, or use the 8 adjustment holes to fine-tune coupler height. Heavy bumper-pull trailers are the fussiest about sitting level, since a mismatched drop overloads either the front or rear axle of the trailer, so take the time to dial it in.
Premium Finish, HD Frame
It's built on the same reinforced HD chassis as the Shocker HD 20K Red, so you're getting proven bones underneath. The textured matte-black powder coat is made to resist UV fade, hide the micro-scratches you pick up every time you slide the shank into the receiver, and hold up better than glossy finishes on salted winter roads and gravel. Backed by Shocker Hitch's 60-day satisfaction guarantee.
