Air ride technology
Instant air ride towing for your pickup & trailer. Built in airbag cushions ride & absorbs road shock
Stop destroying your trailer and cargo.
Every bump, pothole, and expansion joint sends a violent jolt through your trailer frame, damaging cargo and wearing out your truck. Shocker Air Ride Hitches absorb that punishment at the coupling, before it reaches your trailer.
Load a heavy trailer near its limit and every frost heave, expansion joint, and hard stop punches straight back through the receiver into your truck, your cargo, and your spine. The HD Max Black is Shocker's top core bumper-pull hitch, built to soak up that hit while carrying the heaviest legal loads. Its air spring handles 20,000 lbs of gross trailer weight and up to 2,000 lbs of tongue weight on a heavy-wall HD chassis, so it hauls what an F-350, RAM 3500, or dual-rear-wheel one-ton (class V/VI receiver, 3-inch receiver tube) can pull. And it comes in a textured matte-black powder coat, so you get the ride and the capacity without a mismatched chunk of chrome hanging off a blacked-out truck.

How Shocker HD Air Ride Works
20,000-lb Air Spring
A rigid steel drawbar passes every jolt straight into the truck. This heavy-duty multi-ply rubber air bag carries up to 20,000 lbs of trailer and flexes under the load, softening the road shock before it reaches your truck and cargo. Same air-ride engineering as the HD Red, finished to match the matte-black chassis.
Dial It In, Loaded or Empty
A heavy trailer can swing 1,000 lbs or more between empty and fully loaded, and a fixed hitch can't tell the difference. Air up for the max-weight haul, bleed the pressure back down for the empty run home. The HD air bag has a wider usable pressure range than the 14K, so it covers a bigger spread of loads.
Heavy-Wall HD Frame
It keeps the same external 8-hole geometry, so every Shocker ball mount still bolts right on, but the steel is thicker-walled with reinforced welds rated for the full 20K load. All of it wears a textured matte-black powder coat.
One Pivot, Fewer Parts to Wear
Shocker's down-and-back motion runs on a single rocker-arm pivot, with no slides, rollers, or stacked airbags to bind up, even at HD loads. Fewer moving parts under heavy stress means less to wear out and a longer service life.
Why Buyers Choose HD Max Black
The top core line: heavy-duty capacity and a premium finish in one hitch.
- Carries 20,000 lbs GTW, the heaviest bumper-pull load Shocker rates
- Textured matte-black finish hides receiver scuffs and scratches better than glossy or red coats
- Matches the blacked-out trim packages on Ford, RAM, Chevy, and GMC one-tons
- 3-inch receiver fits the factory hitch on dual-rear-wheel trucks
- Works with the same 20-plus Shocker ball-mount attachments, black-matched where offered
- No trade-off between how much it hauls and how it looks
HD Max Black vs. Max Black 14K: What's Different
Same finish family, different capacity tier:
More Airbag, More Steel
The HD steps up to a 20K-rated air bag and reinforced steel walls, taking capacity to 20,000 lbs GTW with 2,000 lbs of tongue weight. It's the one to run when your loads climb past 14,000 lbs and the 14K runs out of room.
3-Inch Receiver for One-Tons
HD Max Black comes in a 3-inch receiver built for dual-rear-wheel one-ton trucks, a size the Max Black 14K doesn't offer at all.
Flippable Drop / Rise Geometry
This Shocker HD Max Black Air Hitch & Clevis Mount ships set up as a 3-1/2" to 7-1/2" Drop ball mount. Most Shocker ball mounts flip over, so you can turn that drop into a rise, and the 8 adjustment holes let you fine-tune coupler height on top of that. Getting a heavy trailer to sit level matters more than most people realize. Run it nose-high or nose-low and the mismatch dumps weight onto the trailer's front or rear axle, so take the minute and set the height right.
Premium Finish, HD Frame
Underneath the finish sits the same reinforced HD chassis as the Shocker HD 20K Red. The textured matte-black powder coat is built to shrug off UV fade, hide the micro-scratches you get every time the shank slides into the receiver, and last longer than glossy coats on salt-belt roads and gravel. It's in stock in Canada and ships direct with no border wait, and it's backed by Shocker Hitch's 60-day satisfaction guarantee.
