How Shocker HD Air Ride Works
20K-Rated Air Spring
A heavy-duty multi-ply rubber air bag carries up to 20,000 lbs of trailer weight and soaks up the road shock before it reaches your truck and your cargo. Same engineering as the HD Red, finished to match the matte-black chassis.
Adjustable for Heavy Loads
A heavy trailer can swing 1,000+ lbs between empty and loaded, and a rigid hitch rides just as harsh no matter which. Add air for the heavy run, bleed it off for the deadhead home. The HD airbag has a wider usable pressure range than the 14K.
Reinforced HD Chassis
Same external 8-hole pattern, so every Shocker ball mount still fits, but the steel is thicker-walled and the welds are reinforced for 20K loads. Finished in textured matte-black powder coat.
Rocker-Arm Pivot
The down-and-back motion runs on a single pivot, with no slides, rollers, or stacked airbags to wear out, even at HD loads. Fewer moving parts under that kind of stress means it lasts longer.

HD Max Black comes in a 3-inch receiver for dual-rear-wheel one-ton trucks, a configuration the Max Black 14K does not offer.
Flippable Drop / Rise Geometry
This Shocker HD Max Black Air Hitch & Clevis Mount ships set up with a 3-1/2" to 7-1/2" Drop ball mount. Most Shocker ball mounts flip over, so you can turn that drop into a rise, and the 8 adjustment holes let you fine-tune coupler height from there. Getting a heavy bumper-pull trailer to sit level matters more than most people think. Run it nose-high or nose-low and you pile weight onto one trailer axle while the other coasts, so take the time to dial it in.
