The best way to measure your receiver hitch tube is to measure inside of the tube to inside of the tube. This will help you know what size ball mount you need to get for your hitch. It may be 1-1/4" common on cars and CUVs. 2" receivers are found on most mid and full size SUVs along with 1/2 ton pickups (and older 3/4 ton). Newer 3/4 ton pickups have a 2-1/2" receiver hitch. Select 2017 and newer Ford F350 and F450 dually trucks may have a 3" receiver hitch.
When measuring what size hitch you have, measure the INSIDE of the tube — not the outside.
Receiver sizes by vehicle
- 2" Receiver Hitch: Generally found on 1/2 Ton – 1500 pickup trucks and full size SUVs (also on older 3/4 and 1 ton pre-2015), compact/mid-size pickups and select mid-size SUV/CUVs.
- 2-1/2" Receiver Hitch: 2015 and newer 3/4 ton and 1 ton pickup trucks.
- 3" Receiver Hitch: Rare — select 2017 and newer Ford Super Duty F350 and F450 1-ton dually.
- 1-1/4" Receiver Hitch: Most cars and select compact and mid-size SUV/CUVs.
