Stop destroying your trailer and cargo.

Every bump, pothole, and expansion joint sends a violent jolt through your trailer frame, damaging cargo and wearing out your truck. Shocker Air Ride Hitches absorb that punishment at the coupling, before it reaches your trailer.

When your trailer sits too high or too low, everything downstream pays for it. The load rides off-level, the tongue drags or noses up, and every frost heave and hard stop jerks back through the truck. The Shocker XR Extended Range chassis is built to put a stop to that. It gives you up to 7-1/2 inches of rise and 7-1/2 inches of drop in one frame, so you can pin the trailer dead level no matter how tall your truck sits or how low the tongue drops. Instead of a fixed hitch you outgrow, the XR is a base you buy once and add interchangeable attachments to, swapping them as your trailers change. This XR Drop Hitch 8 Hole Frame Only with Pins is rated up to 16,000 lbs GTW across its 8-hole adjustment range and slides right into your receiver.

What Extended Range Means

Drop and Rise in One Frame

Most drop hitches hand you a few inches one way and leave you stuck the other. Lift the truck or drop the tongue too far and the trailer never sits level. The XR frame carries adjustment holes across the whole span, up to 7-1/2 inches of rise on one end and up to 7-1/2 inches of drop on the other. Flip it and pin it to land level anywhere in between.

Air Ride Across the Whole Range

A solid drop hitch has no give, so every bump slams straight through to your load and your truck. The XR runs the same multi-ply airbag used in the HD line right inside the chassis. You get smooth, tunable cushioning at any drop or rise setting, so the ride stays soft whether you are running empty or loaded heavy.

One Base, Interchangeable Attachments

Buy the XR base frame once, then add only the attachment you need right now (ball mount, pintle hook, clevis, drawbar, or combo ball). When your trailers change, you switch the attachment instead of buying a whole new hitch. Over time that costs a lot less than a complete hitch for every scenario.

Two Frame Variants

The 8-hole frame handles most lifted trucks and standard low-tongue trailers. Need even more reach for an extreme setup? The 10-hole frame stretches the range further. Both use the same attachment lineup, so you are never locked in.

Built For These Buyers

If your hauling changes with the seasons (different trailers, different trucks, different loads), the XR is built for you.

  • Lifted-truck owners who need more than 6 inches of drop
  • Households running several trailers (boat, camper, equipment) at different tongue heights
  • Dealers and fleets standardizing on one frame across many trailers
  • Anyone swapping between bumper-pull and pintle-ring trailers
  • Off-road and overland users hitching to all kinds of trailers
  • Owners who want one frame that covers every scenario

XR Extended Range vs Fixed-Frame Air Hitches

The XR works differently than a fixed-frame hitch. Here is when it wins and when a fixed-frame line is the smarter buy.

Option 1

XR Extended Range (modular)

Wider drop and rise in one frame. Lower starting price, with frame-only SKUs from under $300. Attachments swap in seconds. Best if you run multiple trailers, fight an unusual height mismatch, or just want room to change your setup for years without re-buying.

Option 2

Original Shocker, HD Max Black, or HD line (fixed-frame)

Standard drop range (about 6 to 7 inches). Ships as one complete hitch with the attachment picked at purchase. Simpler to spec if you only ever pull one trailer. Best if that trailer sits at a known tongue height and you do not need extreme adjustment.

The LEGO Model: Buy Once, Swap Forever

The XR is the only bumper-pull line in the Shocker catalog built around a true base-plus-attachment design. The frame stays in your truck. The attachments ride in the toolbox or hang in the garage. Going from boat trailer to dump trailer to pintle-ring overland trailer? Pull two pins, swap the attachment in under a minute, and go, with no complete hitch to re-buy every time. Over years of mixed-trailer towing, that saves real money and real garage space.

Heavy-Duty Steel, Black Powder Coat

A towing frame lives outside in salt, grit, and weather, so it has to be built to take it. The XR chassis is heavy-gauge steel under a tough black powder coat that shrugs off the road. Inside sits the same multi-ply, commercial-grade airbag used across the HD line. It is covered by Shocker's 60-day satisfaction guarantee and ships direct from our Canadian warehouse, so there is no customs delay. One thing to know: receiver size sets your maximum capacity. A 2-inch shank rates up to 12,000 lbs, a 2-1/2 inch up to 18,000 lbs, and a 3-inch up to 20,000 lbs.
