When a 30K Hitch Runs Out of Room
Most gooseneck trailers top out around 25K to 30K GTW, and they ride fine on the Standard 30K hitch. Push past that and the margin disappears. If you're running skid steers on tilt-deck goosenecks, multi-axle commercial trailers, oilfield equipment, or hotshot loads sitting at the top of Class 5, a 30K-rated hitch leaves you nothing in reserve. The 40K HD gives you 10,000 lbs more GTW headroom and 2,000 lbs more tongue capacity, plus a 3-inch ball coupler matched to the larger balls used on 35K-class commercial gooseneck trailers. If you load heavy and tow every day, that reserve is the difference between comfortable and maxed out.

Forward-Back Motion Airbag
The same patented surge-air mechanism, scaled up for 40,000 lbs loads. A heavy-duty air spring soaks up the forward-back jerk between your truck bed and the trailer stem, which is the motion you feel most.
Shift Lock for 3-inch Balls
Patented dual-side capture grips the 3" gooseneck ball from both sides at once, so you get no sloppy single-jaw connection. A visual lock indicator shows engagement at a glance.

3-inch Ball vs. 2-5/16-inch Ball
The 40K HD needs a 3-inch gooseneck ball, bigger and heavier than the standard 2-5/16-inch. Check your ball before ordering.
3-inch Gooseneck Ball (this line)
This is what the 40K HD runs on. The bigger ball gives more contact surface and higher capacity, and it's common on commercial heavy-duty goosenecks and Class 5 equipment trailers.
2-5/16-inch Gooseneck Ball (30K lines)
The standard ball on Class 4 and lower-end Class 5 trailers. It's what the surge-air-gooseneck-standard-30k, offset, and shift-lock lines use, and it will not work with this 40K hitch.
