The difference is the finish: a textured matte-black premium powder coat that hides scratches, complements a blacked-out truck, and gives it a more rugged, upmarket look than the classic red.

The Air Spring Does the Work
A heavy-duty air bag sits under the receiver tube and soaks up the jerking, tugging, and impact before any of it reaches your truck or trailer. There is no rigid connection to pass the shock through.

Sway Control: Two Configurations
The Max Black comes with or without sway-control tabs, depending on which ball-mount attachment you pick:
Standard Ball Mount (No Sway Tabs)
Right for boats, livestock trailers, equipment haulers, and any load that does not need friction sway bars. The pivoting air-ride design already cuts down on sway tendency on its own.
Ball Mount With Welded Sway Tabs
Adds welded tabs so you can bolt on a friction sway-bar kit (sold separately). The pick for travel trailers and tall-profile campers that catch a crosswind and start to wander.
Flip It for Drop or Rise
This Shocker Max Black Air Hitch & Chrome Combo Ball Mount ships set up for 1/2" to 4-1/2" of drop. Most Shocker ball mounts flip over, so you can turn that drop into rise, and the 8 adjustment holes let you fine-tune coupler height on top of that. Towing a low travel trailer behind a lifted truck or a tall camper behind a stock pickup, the geometry works either way so your trailer rides level.
