I've ridden in the trailer myself — the difference in shock is huge. Our horses come off so much more relaxed, and there's less wear on the truck and trailer too.

Improves Safety

By giving you improved control of your tow vehicle and trailer. The air bag receiver hitch system allows for better control of your pickup and the trailer it is towing.

2 Hole Receiver Shank

Designed for 2-1/2" receiver hitch tubes with two hitch pin holes for length adjustability.

Built in Air Ride System

Absorbs road shock, bumps, jerks, tugs & bangs when towing & creates smooth ride. Plus it naturally reduces tendency to trailer sway. Dual rubber bump cushions also offer additional performance.

Safer Smoother Towing

Air ride towing technology with a heavy duty built in air ride suspension to cushion the ride & absorb the road shock. The air ride system sits under receiver tube.

Stop destroying your trailer and cargo.

Every bump, pothole, and expansion joint sends a violent jolt through your trailer frame, damaging cargo and wearing out your truck. Shocker Air Ride Hitches absorb that punishment at the coupling, before it reaches your trailer.

Every hard stop, every frost heave, every set of railroad tracks sends a jolt straight from the trailer into your truck when you tow on a solid steel hitch. Over the miles that jarring wears on the truck, the trailer, and whatever you're hauling, and it makes for a rough, white-knuckle ride. The Shocker Max Black Air Hitch Base Frame (No Ball Mount) puts an air spring between the two so those hits get soaked up before they reach you. It's the same chassis and air-ride engineering as the Original Shocker Air Hitch, rated to pull 14,000 lbs, which covers the heaviest trailer you'll put behind an F-250, RAM 2500, or another three-quarter-ton truck with a 2-1/2-inch (class V) receiver. The difference here is the finish. It's a textured matte-black premium powder coat that hides scratches, ages better than glossy red, and looks right at home on a blacked-out truck.

Key Highlights

  • Handles up to 14,000 lbs and 1,400 lbs of tongue weight on the proven 8-hole chassis, enough for the heaviest trailer behind a three-quarter-ton truck
  • Textured matte-black powder coat shrugs off road rash and stone chips, so it still looks good years down the road
  • Drops into the 2-1/2-inch (class V) receiver on F-250, RAM 2500, and other three-quarter-ton trucks
  • Add or release air to match any load, so the ride stays smooth whether the trailer's empty or packed
  • Simple rocker-arm pivot means fewer moving parts to wear out and a longer service life
  • 8 adjustment holes let you set the ball mount at the right height so the trailer tows level
  • Matches blacked-out trucks, dark wheels, and modern factory trim packages
  • Backed by our 60-day satisfaction guarantee

How Shocker Air Ride Works

Built-In Air Spring

A heavy-duty air bag sits under the receiver tube and soaks up the jerking, tugging, and impact from the road before any of it reaches your truck or trailer. There's no solid steel connection to pass the shock straight through.

Air You Can Adjust

Pump in more air for a heavy trailer, let some out for a light one. Set the pressure so the hitch sits at proper ride height every single time you hook up.

One Simple Pivot

Shocker's signature down-and-back motion runs on a single pivot, with no slides, rollers, parallel linkages, or stacked airbags to wear out. Fewer moving parts means a longer service life.

Dual Bump Cushions

When a jolt is bigger than the air bag can fully swallow, two backup rubber cushions catch the rest. That gives the system a built-in safety margin on the heaviest hits.

Why Owners Pick the Black Finish

It's the same proven 14K chassis as the Original. What changes is the finish and how it presents.

  • Textured matte black hides scratches and stone chips far better than glossy red
  • Matches blacked-out OEM packages like King Ranch, Limited, AT4, Rebel, and Platinum
  • No fade-line where the receiver enters the bumper, so it looks newer for longer
  • A premium look for owners who treat their truck as a statement piece
  • All 20+ Shocker ball-mount attachments come in matching black
  • Same air-ride performance as the red, this just adds looks and durability

Sway Control: Two Ways to Set It Up

Whether the Max Black carries sway-control tabs comes down to the ball-mount attachment you pair with it:

Option 1

Standard Ball Mount (No Sway Tabs)

Best for boats, livestock trailers, equipment haulers, and any load that doesn't need friction sway bars. The pivoting air-ride design already cuts down sway tendency on its own.

Option 2

Ball Mount With Welded Sway Tabs

Adds welded tabs so you can bolt on a friction sway-bar kit (sold separately). This is the one for travel trailers and tall campers that get pushed around by crosswinds.

Flip It for Drop or Rise

A trailer that rides nose-up or nose-down chews through tires and tows rough. This base frame is set up for 8 adjustment holes of ball-mount height. Most Shocker ball mounts are reversible, so you can flip the mount to turn drop into rise, then use the 8 adjustment holes to fine-tune coupler height. Tow a low travel trailer behind a lifted truck or a tall camper behind a stock pickup, and the geometry adapts either way.

A Finish That Holds Up

Gravel roads and salt-belt winters are hard on a hitch, and a cheap coating fades and rusts in a hurry. This is built on the same heavy-wall steel chassis as the Original 14K, then finished in a textured matte-black powder coat made to resist UV fade, hide the micro-scratches you get from sliding the shank in and out, and outlast glossy finishes where the roads are rough and salty. It's backed by Shocker Hitch's 60-day satisfaction guarantee.
