I've ridden in the trailer myself — the difference in shock is huge. Our horses come off so much more relaxed, and there's less wear on the truck and trailer too.

Stop destroying your trailer and cargo.

Every bump, pothole, and expansion joint sends a violent jolt through your trailer frame, damaging cargo and wearing out your truck. Shocker Air Ride Hitches absorb that punishment at the coupling, before it reaches your trailer.

Haul a heavy trailer behind a one-ton and you feel every frost heave, expansion joint, and hard stop slam back through the truck, the hitch, and whatever you're carrying. The HD Max Black soaks up that punishment with a heavy-duty air spring, so the road stops beating up your rig and your load. It's the top of the Shocker bumper-pull line: 20,000 lbs GTW, the heaviest trailer you'll legally put behind an F-250 or RAM 2500-class three-quarter-ton truck, riding on a beefier-wall HD chassis with a 2-1/2-inch receiver. Wrapped in a textured matte-black powder coat for owners who won't trade capacity for looks.

How Shocker HD Air Ride Softens the Road

20K-Rated Air Spring

The air spring is a heavy-duty multi-ply rubber bag that carries up to 20,000 lbs of trailer while it soaks up the road shock that would otherwise pound your truck and cargo. Same proven guts as the HD Red, finished to match the matte-black chassis.

Set It for the Load You've Got

A heavy bumper-pull trailer can swing 1,000-plus lbs between empty and loaded. Air it up for a max-weight run so the hitch rides firm, then bleed it back down for the deadhead home so it isn't stiff over every bump. The HD bag gives you a wider usable pressure range than the 14K to cover that spread.

Reinforced HD Chassis

Same external 8-hole pattern as every Shocker head, so any Shocker ball mount bolts right on. Underneath it's thicker-wall steel with reinforced welds rated to hold 20K loads without flexing, all under a textured matte-black powder coat.

Rocker-Arm Pivot

The head moves down and back on a single pivot, with no slides, rollers, or stacked airbags to wear out, even at these heavy loads. Fewer parts under that kind of stress means fewer things that can fail, so it keeps working season after season.

Why Buyers Choose HD Max Black

The top of the core line, heavy-duty capacity with a premium finish.

  • Hauls the heaviest bumper-pull trailer you can legally tow at 20,000 lbs GTW
  • Textured matte black hides receiver scratches better than glossy or red finishes
  • Blends in with blacked-out factory packages on Ford, RAM, Chevy, and GMC one-tons
  • 3-inch receiver option lines up with dual-rear-wheel truck factory hitches
  • Works with the same 20-plus Shocker ball-mount attachments, black-matched where offered
  • You keep the capacity and the looks, no trade-off

HD Max Black vs. Max Black 14K: What Changes

Same black finish, a bigger capacity tier.

Option 1

Heavier Airbag and Walls

The HD runs a 20K-rated airbag and reinforced steel walls, stepping you up from the 14K's 14,000 lbs to a full 20,000 lbs GTW. This is the one to get when your loaded trailer pushes past 14,000 lbs.

Option 2

Three-Inch Receiver Option

HD Max Black comes in a 3-inch receiver for dual-rear-wheel one-ton trucks, which the Max Black 14K doesn't offer at all.

Flip It for Drop or Rise

This mount ships set up for 1/2" to 4-1/2" of drop. Most Shocker ball mounts flip over, so you can turn that drop into rise, and the 8 adjustment holes let you dial coupler height in smaller steps. Getting a heavy trailer to sit level matters more than most people think. Run it nose-high or nose-low and you shove too much weight onto the trailer's front or rear axle, so take the time to set it right.

Built Tough, Finished to Last

Underneath, it's the same reinforced HD chassis as the Shocker HD 20K Red. The textured matte-black powder coat is built to fight UV fade, hide the micro-scratches every receiver leaves when you slide the shank in and out, and hold up longer than glossy finishes on salted winter highways and gravel back roads. Backed by Shocker Hitch's 60-day satisfaction guarantee.
