Stop destroying your trailer and cargo.
Every bump, pothole, and expansion joint sends a violent jolt through your trailer frame, damaging cargo and wearing out your truck. Shocker Air Ride Hitches absorb that punishment at the coupling, before it reaches your trailer.
Pull something heavy and every frost heave, pothole, and hard stop slams straight up through the receiver into your truck, your back, and whatever you're hauling. The HD Max Black 20K sits at the top of Shocker's bumper-pull lineup, built to soak up that punishment. Under a textured matte-black premium powder coat is a heavy-duty air-ride hitch rated for 20,000 lbs of trailer, about the heaviest load you'd legally put behind a truck. It drops into a 2-inch receiver on F-150-class half-ton trucks and class III/IV receivers, rides on a beefier-wall HD chassis, and gives one-ton owners who won't choose between capacity and finish both in the same hitch.

How Shocker HD Air Ride Works
20K-Rated Air Cushion
The heart of the hitch is a heavy-duty, multi-ply rubber air bag that carries up to 20,000 lbs of trailer while soaking up the road shock before it reaches your truck and your cargo. It's the same air-ride engineering as the HD Red, just finished to match the matte-black frame.
Adjustable for Heavy Loads
A heavy bumper-pull trailer can swing 1,000 lbs or more between empty and loaded. Air it up for a full, max-weight run and bleed it back down for the deadhead home, so the ride stays smooth either way. The HD air bag works across a wider usable pressure range than the 14K.
Reinforced HD Chassis
Same 8-hole pattern on the outside, so every Shocker ball mount still bolts right on, but the steel is thicker-walled and the welds are reinforced to handle 20K loads. All of it wears the same textured matte-black powder coat.
Rocker-Arm Pivot
Shocker's down-and-back motion runs on a single pivot, with no slides, rollers, or stacked airbags to wear out, even under HD loads. Fewer parts moving under heavy stress means less to fail and a longer service life.
Why Buyers Choose HD Max Black
The top of the core line: heavy-duty capacity and a premium finish in one hitch.
- Pulls the heaviest legal bumper-pull trailer at 20,000 lbs GTW
- Textured matte black hides scuffs and scratches better than glossy or red finishes
- Matches the blacked-out trim on Ford, RAM, Chevy, and GMC one-tons
- 3-inch receiver option matches the factory hitch on dually one-tons
- Works with all 20+ Shocker ball-mount attachments, black-matched where offered
- No trade-off between capacity and how your rig looks
HD Max Black vs. Max Black 14K, What Changes
Same finish family, different capacity tier:
Heavier Airbag and Thicker Walls
The HD air bag and reinforced steel walls take you well past the 14K's 14,000-lb limit, up to the full 20,000 lbs GTW. Grab this one when your loads climb past what the 14K can carry.
Three-Inch Receiver Option
HD Max Black comes in a 3-inch receiver built for dual-rear-wheel one-ton trucks, something the Max Black 14K doesn't offer.
Flippable Drop / Rise Geometry
This hitch ships set up as a 1/2" to 4-1/2" drop. Most Shocker ball mounts flip over, so you can turn that drop into a rise, and the 8 adjustment holes let you fine-tune coupler height on top of that. Getting a heavy bumper-pull trailer sitting level matters more than most people expect. If the drop is off and the trailer noses up or down, you end up overloading either its front or rear axle, so take a minute and dial it in right.
Premium Finish, HD Frame
Underneath, it's the same reinforced HD chassis as the Shocker HD 20K Red. On top, the textured matte-black powder coat is built to fight UV fade, hide the micro-scratches you get every time the shank slides into the receiver, and hold up longer than a glossy finish where salt and gravel roads chew coatings apart. Backed by Shocker Hitch's 60-day satisfaction guarantee.
