Air ride technology
Built in air ride system, cushions the ride & absorbing the road shock
Stop destroying your trailer and cargo.
Every bump, pothole, and expansion joint sends a violent jolt through your trailer frame, damaging cargo and wearing out your truck. Shocker Air Ride Hitches absorb that punishment at the coupling, before it reaches your trailer.
Load a heavy trailer behind a big truck and every frost heave and hard stop comes straight back through the hitch. That chucking beats on your truck, your trailer, and whatever you paid to haul back there. The Shocker HD Max Black Air Hitch & Drop Ball Mount w/ 2" Ball & Sway Bar Tabs is built to soak that up at the top of the range. It carries 20,000 lbs of trailer (GTW) and up to 2,000 lbs on the ball, so it hauls the heaviest legal bumper-pull load you'll put behind an F-250 or RAM 2500-class three-quarter-ton truck (class V receiver, 2-1/2-inch tube). The beefier-wall HD chassis wears a textured matte-black powder coat, so you get Shocker's biggest capacity without giving up the look. If you run one of these trucks near the top of its rating and you care how the rig looks, this is the one.

How Shocker HD Air Ride Works
The Airbag Does the Cushioning
A heavy multi-ply rubber air bag sits between your truck and the load, so the jolts that would slam back through a solid hitch get soaked up instead. It handles up to 20,000 lbs of trailer and still smooths the ride for the truck and the cargo. Same air-ride guts as the HD Red, finished to match the matte-black chassis.
Dial It In Loaded or Empty
A heavy trailer can swing more than 1,000 lbs between empty and full, and a fixed hitch rides rough at one end or the other. Add air for the max-weight run, bleed it off for the deadhead home. The HD airbag has a wider usable pressure range than the 14K, so you get more room to tune.
Built to Carry 20K
Thicker-wall steel and reinforced welds rated for 20,000 lbs mean the frame won't flex when the load gets serious. It keeps the same external 8-hole geometry, so every Shocker ball mount still fits, and it's finished in the same textured matte-black powder coat.
One Simple Pivot, Fewer Failure Points
The down-and-back motion runs on a single rocker-arm pivot, with no slides, rollers, or stacked airbags to wear out, even at HD loads. Fewer moving parts under heavy stress means less to go wrong and a longer service life.
Why Owners Reach for the HD Max Black
The top of the core line, heavy-duty capacity and a premium finish in one.
- Shocker's heaviest bumper-pull rating at 20,000 lbs GTW
- Textured matte black shrugs off scratches better than glossy or red finishes
- Matches the blacked-out trim on Ford, RAM, Chevy, and GMC one-tons
- 3-inch receiver option lines up with dual-rear-wheel factory hitches
- Works with the same 20+ Shocker ball mounts, black-matched where offered
- Full capacity and a clean look, no trade-off between the two
HD Max Black vs. Max Black 14K: What's Different
Same black finish, a bigger capacity tier:
Bigger Airbag, Thicker Walls
When your loads climb past what the 14K handles, this is the step up. The 20K-rated HD airbag and reinforced steel walls carry 20,000 lbs GTW with 2,000 lbs on the ball, so you've got real headroom for the heaviest hauls.
3-Inch Receiver for Duallys
This one comes in a 3-inch receiver for dual-rear-wheel one-ton trucks, which the Max Black 14K doesn't offer. If your truck runs the bigger tube, you can match it.
Get the Trailer Sitting Level
A heavy trailer that rides nose-high or tail-low dumps the weight onto one axle, wears the tires uneven, and tows squirrelly. This Shocker HD Max Black Air Hitch & Drop Ball Mount w/ 2" Ball & Sway Bar Tabs ships in a 4-1/2" to 8-1/2" Drop configuration, and most Shocker ball mounts flip over to turn that drop into rise. Use the 8 adjustment holes to fine-tune coupler height until the trailer sits flat. Heavy bumper-pull trailers are picky about level, so take the time to dial it in.
A Finish That Holds Up
Salt, gravel, and sun chew through cheap coatings, and every time you slide a mount into the receiver it wants to leave a scratch. This is built on the same reinforced HD chassis as the Shocker HD 20K Red, then wrapped in a textured matte-black powder coat made to resist UV fade, hide the micro-scratches from receiver insertion, and outlast glossy finishes on salt-belt and gravel roads. Backed by Shocker Hitch's 60-day satisfaction guarantee.
