Air ride technology
Built in air ride system, cushions the ride & absorbing the road shock
Stop destroying your trailer and cargo.
Every bump, pothole, and expansion joint sends a violent jolt through your trailer frame, damaging cargo and wearing out your truck. Shocker Air Ride Hitches absorb that punishment at the coupling, before it reaches your trailer.
Pull a heavy trailer behind a rigid hitch and every frost heave, pothole, and hard stop slams straight through the ball into your truck, your trailer, and whatever you're hauling. That constant chucking wears out couplers, shakes cargo loose, and turns a long haul into a beating. The Shocker HD Max Black Air Hitch & Drop Ball Mount w/ 2-5/16" Ball & Sway Bar Tabs drops an air spring into that path so the shocks get soaked up instead of passed along. It's the heaviest bumper-pull hitch Shocker builds, rated for 20,000 lbs GTW and up to 2,000 lbs of tongue weight on a beefier-wall HD chassis, so it hauls the biggest legal trailer you'll hang off an F-250 or RAM 2500-class three-quarter-ton truck (class V receivers) with a 2-1/2-inch receiver. And it wears a textured matte-black premium powder coat, so you get full capacity without giving up the look.
Key Highlights

- 20K-rated HD airbag with reinforced multi-ply construction soaks up the shock a heavy trailer sends back

- Fits 2-1/2-inch receivers, with a 3-inch option for one-ton trucks

How Shocker HD Air Ride Works
20K-Rated Air Spring
A rigid hitch has nothing to give when the road turns rough, so every bump reaches the truck. The HD multi-ply rubber air bag sits in that path, cushioning road shock for your truck and cargo while carrying up to 20,000 lbs of trailer load. It's the same air-ride engineering as the HD Red, finished to match the matte-black chassis.
Adjustable for Heavy Loads
A trailer loaded on the way out and empty on the way home can swing 1,000+ lbs between trips, and a fixed hitch can't set itself for either end of that. Add air for the loaded haul, then let some out for the deadhead run. The HD airbag has a wider usable pressure range than the 14K, so it covers a bigger spread of loads.
Reinforced HD Chassis
Tow at 20K and the frame takes real punishment. This one uses thicker-wall steel and reinforced welds rated for 20,000 lbs, finished in textured matte-black powder coat. It keeps the same external 8-hole geometry, so every Shocker ball mount still bolts right on.
Rocker-Arm Pivot
More moving parts under a heavy load means more things to wear out and fail. Shocker's down-and-back motion runs on a single pivot, with no slides, rollers, or stacked airbags even at HD loadings. Fewer parts under high stress means a longer service life.
Why Buyers Choose HD Max Black
The top of the core line, heavy duty and premium finish in one hitch.
- Tops the bumper-pull range at 20,000 lbs GTW
- Textured matte black hides scratches better than glossy or red finishes
- Matches blacked-out OEM packages on Ford, RAM, Chevy, and GMC one-tons
- 3-inch receiver option lines up with dual-rear-wheel factory hitches
- Works with the same 20+ Shocker ball-mount attachments, black-matched where offered
- You keep the capacity and the looks, no trade-off
HD Max Black vs. Max Black 14K, What's Different
Same finish family, different capacity tier:
Heavier Airbag and Walls
The Max Black 14K tops out at 14,000 lbs. Step up to this HD airbag and reinforced steel walls and you get 20,000 lbs GTW with 2,000 lbs of tongue weight. It's the one to grab when your loads run past what the 14K can carry.
Three-Inch Receiver Option
HD Max Black comes in a 3-inch receiver for dual-rear-wheel one-ton trucks. The Max Black 14K doesn't offer that size, so if you're running a dually, this is your match.
Flippable Drop / Rise Geometry
A trailer that rides nose-high or tail-low throws its weight onto one axle, wears tires unevenly, and tows squirrelly. This Shocker HD Max Black Air Hitch & Drop Ball Mount w/ 2-5/16" Ball & Sway Bar Tabs ships in a 4-1/2" to 8-1/2" Drop configuration. Most Shocker ball mounts are reversible, so you can flip the mount to turn drop into rise, or use the 8 adjustment holes to fine-tune coupler height. Heavy bumper-pull trailers are especially fussy about sitting level, and a mismatched drop overloads either the front or rear axle of the trailer, so take the time to dial it in.
Premium Finish, HD Frame
Slide a hitch in and out of a receiver enough times and a cheap finish scuffs and starts to rust at the mouth. This one is built on the same reinforced HD chassis as the Shocker HD 20K Red, wearing a textured matte-black powder coat made to resist UV fade, hide the micro-scratches from receiver insertion, and outlast glossy finishes on salt-belt roads and gravel. Backed by Shocker Hitch's 60-day satisfaction guarantee.
