Air ride technology
Built in air ride system, cushions the ride & absorbing the road shock
Stop destroying your trailer and cargo.
Every bump, pothole, and expansion joint sends a violent jolt through your trailer frame, damaging cargo and wearing out your truck. Shocker Air Ride Hitches absorb that punishment at the coupling, before it reaches your trailer.
Put a loaded trailer near your truck's limit and you feel it. Every frost heave and hard stop comes straight up through the hitch into the cab and back through your cargo, and the constant chucking wears on truck, trailer, and load alike. The Shocker HD Max Black Air Hitch & Drop Ball Mount w/ 2-5/16" Ball & Sway Bar Tabs drops an air spring between your truck and that trailer so the road shock gets soaked up instead of hammering both ends. It hauls 20,000 lbs (GTW) with up to 2,000 lbs on the ball, the heaviest bumper-pull rating Shocker makes, on a heavy-duty chassis built with thicker-wall steel. It fits F-150-class half-ton trucks and class III/IV receivers with a 2-inch receiver, wrapped in a textured matte-black powder coat that shrugs off gravel and salt. The pick for the owner who won't trade capacity for looks.

How Shocker HD Air Ride Works
20,000-lb Air Spring
A heavy-duty multi-ply rubber air bag carries the full 20,000-lb trailer load and soaks up the road shock before it reaches your truck and cargo. It runs the same air-ride engineering as the HD Red, finished to match the matte-black chassis.
Dial It In, Loaded or Empty
A heavy trailer can swing 1,000-plus lbs between empty and full, so a fixed hitch is only ever right for one of them. Add air for the max-weight haul and bleed it off for the deadhead run home. The HD air bag has a wider usable pressure range than the 14K, so you can tune it either way.
Built to Take 20K
Thicker-wall steel and reinforced welds are rated for the full 20,000-lb load, while the outside keeps the same 8-hole geometry so every Shocker ball mount still bolts right on. All of it finished in textured matte-black powder coat.
One Pivot, Fewer Parts to Wear
Shocker's down-and-back motion runs on a single rocker-arm pivot with no slides, rollers, or stacked airbags, even under HD loads. Fewer moving parts taking the strain means less to wear out and a longer service life.
Why Owners Reach for HD Max Black
Our top-tier core hitch, heavy-duty and premium-finished in one.
- Hauls the heaviest bumper-pull trailer you can legally run, up to 20,000 lbs GTW
- Textured matte black hides the scuffs that show on glossy and red finishes
- Matches the blacked-out trim on Ford, RAM, Chevy, and GMC one-tons
- 3-inch receiver option lines up with dual-rear-wheel factory hitches
- Works with the same 20-plus Shocker ball mounts, black-matched where offered
- No trade-off between how much you haul and how the rig looks
HD Max Black vs. Max Black 14K, What's Different
Same finish family, one capacity tier up:
Heavier Airbag, Thicker Walls
A 20K-rated HD air bag and reinforced steel walls take you from the 14,000-lb ceiling of the 14K up to 20,000 lbs GTW with 2,000 lbs on the ball. This is the one to grab once your loads climb past 14,000 lbs.
3-Inch Receiver for the Big Trucks
HD Max Black comes in a 3-inch receiver built for dual-rear-wheel one-ton trucks, a configuration the Max Black 14K doesn't offer at all.
Flip It for Drop or Rise
This Shocker HD Max Black Air Hitch & Drop Ball Mount w/ 2-5/16" Ball & Sway Bar Tabs ships set up as a 4-1/2" to 8-1/2" drop. Like most Shocker ball mounts, it flips over to turn that drop into a rise, and the 8 adjustment holes let you fine-tune coupler height on top of that. Getting a heavy bumper-pull trailer to sit level really matters. Run it nose-high or nose-low and you push too much weight onto the trailer's front or rear axle, so take the time to dial it in.
Premium Finish on an HD Frame
Underneath, it's the same reinforced HD chassis as the Shocker HD 20K Red. On top, the textured matte-black powder coat is built to resist UV fade, hide the micro-scratches that come from sliding the shank in and out of the receiver, and outlast glossy finishes on salt-belt roads and gravel. Every one is backed by Shocker Hitch's 60-day satisfaction guarantee.
