I've ridden in the trailer myself — the difference in shock is huge. Our horses come off so much more relaxed, and there's less wear on the truck and trailer too.

Matte Black Finish

Max Black™ Textured Matte Black Premium Powder-Coat Finish on Base Frame.

Stop destroying your trailer and cargo.

Every bump, pothole, and expansion joint sends a violent jolt through your trailer frame, damaging cargo and wearing out your truck. Shocker Air Ride Hitches absorb that punishment at the coupling, before it reaches your trailer.

Load a heavy trailer behind a one-ton and every frost heave and hard stop slams up through the ball into your truck, your cargo, and your back. This Shocker Max Black HD Air Channel Style Pintle & Ball Hitch puts an air spring between your rig and the road, so those jolts get soaked up instead of chucking the trailer around behind you. Built on a heavy-duty 20K chassis and finished in textured matte-black powder coat, it hauls 16,000 lbs GTW with up to 1,600 lbs of tongue weight, and it fits F-350, RAM 3500, and dual-rear-wheel one-ton trucks (class V/VI receivers) running a 3-inch receiver. It is the pick for one-ton owners who want the smoother ride and the blacked-out look without giving up any capacity to get there.

How the HD Air Ride Takes the Beating

20K-Rated Air Spring

The heavy multi-ply rubber air bag carries up to 16,000 lbs of trailer and still cushions the road shock that would otherwise pound your truck and cargo. It is the same proven air spring as the HD Red, finished here to match the matte-black chassis.

Air Up or Bleed Down for the Load

A heavy bumper-pull trailer can swing 1,000+ lbs between loaded and empty, and a fixed hitch rides rough at one end of that range. Air up for the max-weight run, bleed it down for the deadhead home. The HD airbag gives you a wider usable pressure range than the 14K, so you can dial the ride in either way.

Reinforced HD Chassis

Thicker-wall steel and reinforced welds carry 20K loadings without flexing, while the external 8-hole geometry stays the same so every Shocker ball mount still bolts right up. All of it wears a textured matte-black powder coat.

Rocker-Arm Pivot

Shocker's down-and-back motion runs on a single pivot, with no slides, rollers, or stacked airbags to wear out, even at HD loadings. Fewer parts taking the stress means less to break and a longer service life.

Why Buyers Choose HD Max Black

The top of the core line, heavy-duty capacity and premium finish in one hitch.

  • Pulls the heaviest bumper-pull loads Shocker rates, at 16,000 lbs GTW
  • Textured matte black hides scuffs and scratches better than glossy or red
  • Matches the blacked-out OEM packages on Ford, RAM, Chevy, and GMC one-tons
  • Available 3-inch receiver drops right into dual-rear-wheel factory hitches
  • Runs the same 20+ Shocker ball mounts, black-matched where offered
  • No trade-off between how much it pulls and how it looks

How the HD Max Black Differs From the Max Black 14K

Same finish family, a heavier capacity tier:

Option 1

Heavier Airbag and Walls

The 20K-rated HD airbag and reinforced steel walls take you from the 14K's 16,000 lbs up to 20,000 lbs GTW with 1,600 lbs of tongue weight. Reach for it when your loads run past 14k.

Option 2

Three-Inch Receiver Option

The HD Max Black comes in a 3-inch receiver for dual-rear-wheel one-ton trucks, something the Max Black 14K does not offer.

Set It Level: Flip for Drop or Rise

This hitch ships with a 3″ Drop to 7″ Drop ball-mount setup. Most Shocker ball mounts flip over to turn drop into rise, and the 8 adjustment holes let you fine-tune coupler height until the trailer sits level. That matters most with heavy loads. A trailer riding nose-up or nose-down dumps too much weight onto the front or rear axle, so take the time to get it level before you roll.

Premium Finish, HD Frame

Underneath the finish sits the same reinforced HD chassis as the Shocker HD 20K Red. The textured matte-black powder coat is built to fight UV fade, hide the micro-scratches you get sliding it in and out of the receiver, and hold up better than glossy finishes on salted winter roads and gravel. Backed by Shocker Hitch's 60-day satisfaction guarantee.
