I've ridden in the trailer myself — the difference in shock is huge. Our horses come off so much more relaxed, and there's less wear on the truck and trailer too.

Stop destroying your trailer and cargo.

Every bump, pothole, and expansion joint sends a violent jolt through your trailer frame, damaging cargo and wearing out your truck. Shocker Air Ride Hitches absorb that punishment at the coupling, before it reaches your trailer.

Hitch a heavy bumper-pull trailer to a stock ball mount and you feel every frost heave and hard stop punch straight up through the truck, the trailer, and whatever you loaded in the box. The HD Max Black sits at the top of Shocker's bumper-pull lineup and is built to take that beating off your back. A 20K-rated air spring soaks up the road shock while the reinforced heavy-duty chassis carries 16,000 lbs GTW and up to 1,600 lbs of tongue weight. It drops into a 2-inch receiver on F-150-class half-ton trucks (and class III/IV receivers), all wrapped in a textured matte-black powder coat for the owner who wants maximum capacity without giving up how the rig looks.

How Shocker HD Air Ride Works

20K-Rated Air Spring

A heavy-duty multi-ply rubber air bag sits between your truck and the trailer and soaks up the shock that would otherwise pound both. It handles up to 16,000 lbs of trailer load and uses the same engineering as the HD Red, finished to match the matte-black chassis.

Air It Up or Bleed It Down

A heavy trailer can swing more than 1,000 lbs between empty and full. Add air before a max-weight haul, release it for the deadhead run home, and the ride stays level either way. The HD air bag gives you a wider usable pressure range than the 14K.

Reinforced HD Chassis

The frame keeps the same external 8-hole geometry, so every Shocker ball mount still bolts right on. Underneath it runs thicker-wall steel and reinforced welds rated for 20K loadings, all under a textured matte-black powder coat.

One Simple Pivot

Shocker's down-and-back motion runs on a single pivot, with no slides, rollers, or stacked airbags to wear out, even at HD loadings. Fewer moving parts under heavy stress is why it keeps working year after year.

Why Buyers Choose HD Max Black

The top of the core line, heavy-duty and premium-finish in one package.

  • Pulls the heaviest bumper-pull trailer Shocker rates, 16,000 lbs GTW
  • Textured matte black shrugs off the scratches that show up on glossy or red finishes
  • Matches the blacked-out trim on Ford, RAM, Chevy, and GMC one-tons
  • 3-inch receiver option lines up with dual-rear-wheel factory hitches
  • Works with all 20+ Shocker ball-mount attachments, black-matched where offered
  • No trade-off between capacity and how it looks

HD Max Black vs. Max Black 14K, What Changes

Same finish family, different capacity tier:

Option 1

Heavier Airbag and Walls

A 20K-rated HD airbag and reinforced steel walls push usable capacity from 16,000 lbs on the 14K up to 20,000 lbs GTW with 1,600 lbs tongue weight. This is the one to grab once your loads climb past 14k.

Option 2

Three-Inch Receiver Option

HD Max Black can be had with a 3-inch receiver for dual-rear-wheel one-ton trucks, a setup the Max Black 14K simply doesn't come in.

Flip It for Drop or Rise

This Shocker Max Black HD Air Channel Style Pintle & Ball Hitch ships in a 3″ Drop to 7″ Drop ball-mount setup. Most Shocker ball mounts flip over, so you can turn that drop into a rise, or step through the 8 adjustment holes to land the coupler at the right height. Getting a heavy bumper-pull trailer sitting dead level matters more than most people think. A drop that's off pushes too much weight onto the trailer's front or rear axle, so take the time to dial it in.

Premium Finish on an HD Frame

It's built on the same reinforced HD chassis as the Shocker HD 20K Red. The textured matte-black powder coat is made to fight UV fade, hide the micro-scratches every receiver leaves at the mouth, and hold up longer than glossy finishes on salt-belt and gravel-road runs. Backed by Shocker Hitch's 60-day satisfaction guarantee.
