Stop destroying your trailer and cargo.
Every bump, pothole, and expansion joint sends a violent jolt through your trailer frame, damaging cargo and wearing out your truck. Shocker Air Ride Hitches absorb that punishment at the coupling, before it reaches your trailer.
Hitch a heavy trailer to a rigid mount and the road comes straight up through the truck. Frost heaves, expansion joints, and hard stops hammer your rig, your trailer, and your cargo the whole way. The HD Max Black sits at the top of Shocker's bumper-pull core line, and it's built to soak that up. Its 20K air-ride tier hauls a full 16,000 lbs GTW and up to 1,600 lbs of tongue weight on a beefier-wall HD chassis, so it handles the heaviest trailer you'd run on a class III/IV receiver. It slides into a 2-inch receiver on F-150-class half-tons and one-ton trucks alike, and it wears a textured matte-black premium powder coat that looks right next to a blacked-out truck. When you want maximum capacity and a premium finish in one hitch, this is the one.

How Shocker HD Air Ride Works
20K-Rated Air Spring
The HD multi-ply rubber air bag carries the full 16,000 lbs of trailer and still soaks up the jolts before they reach your truck and your load. Same air-ride guts as the HD Red, finished to match the matte-black chassis.
Adjustable for Heavy Loads
A heavy trailer can swing more than 1,000 lbs between empty and loaded, and a fixed hitch rides wrong at one end or the other. Air up for the max-weight run, bleed it down for the deadhead, and it sits right both ways. The HD airbag has a wider usable pressure range than the 14K.
Reinforced HD Chassis
Same external 8-hole geometry, so every Shocker ball mount still fits, but the wall steel is thicker and the welds are reinforced for 20K loadings. All of it wears the textured matte-black powder coat.
Rocker-Arm Pivot
The down-and-back motion runs on a single pivot, with no slides, rollers, or stacked airbags to wear out, even under HD loads. Fewer moving parts taking the stress means it lasts longer.
Why Buyers Choose HD Max Black
The top of the core line: heavy-duty capacity and a premium finish together.
- Pulls the heaviest bumper-pull load Shocker rates, a full 16,000 lbs GTW
- Textured matte black hides scuffs better than glossy or red finishes
- Matches blacked-out factory packages on Ford, RAM, Chevy, and GMC one-tons
- 3-inch receiver option matches the factory hitch on dual-rear-wheel trucks
- Works with the same 20+ Shocker ball-mount attachments, black-matched where offered
- No trade-off between capacity and looks
HD Max Black vs. Max Black 14K: What's Different
Same finish family, different capacity tier:
Heavier Airbag + Walls
The 20K-rated HD airbag and reinforced steel walls push usable capacity from the 14K's 16,000 lbs up to 20,000 lbs GTW at 1,600 lbs tongue weight. Reach for it when your loads climb past 14k.
Three-Inch Receiver Option
HD Max Black comes in a 3-inch receiver for dual-rear-wheel one-ton trucks, a configuration the Max Black 14K doesn't offer.
Flippable Drop / Rise Geometry
This hitch ships in a 3″ Drop to 7″ Drop ball-mount setup. Most Shocker ball mounts flip over, so you can turn drop into rise, and the 8 adjustment holes let you fine-tune coupler height on top of that. A heavy bumper-pull trailer wants to sit dead level, because a mismatched drop dumps weight onto the trailer's front or rear axle, so take a minute to get it right.
Premium Finish, HD Frame
Built on the same reinforced HD chassis as the Shocker HD 20K Red. The textured matte-black powder coat is made to fight UV fade, hide the micro-scratches you get sliding it in and out of the receiver, and hold up longer than glossy finishes on salt-belt roads and gravel. Backed by Shocker Hitch's 60-day satisfaction guarantee.
