Stop destroying your trailer and cargo.
Every bump, pothole, and expansion joint sends a violent jolt through your trailer frame, damaging cargo and wearing out your truck. Shocker Air Ride Hitches absorb that punishment at the coupling, before it reaches your trailer.
Pull a heavy trailer behind a big truck and you feel every frost heave, expansion joint, and hard stop travel straight up through the ball into the truck, then chuck back and forth into your cargo. That constant jarring wears on the truck, the trailer, and whatever you are hauling. The Shocker HD Max Black Air Hitch & Raised Ball Mount w/ 2-5/16" Ball drops an air spring between the truck and the trailer so the road shock gets soaked up instead of slamming back at you. It is the heavy-duty top of the Shocker bumper-pull lineup, rated for 20,000 lbs GTW and up to 2,000 lbs of tongue weight on a thick-wall HD chassis, sized for F-250 / RAM 2500-class three-quarter-ton trucks (class V receivers) running a 2-1/2-inch receiver. And it wears a textured matte-black powder coat, so you get the heaviest rating Shocker makes without a finish that clashes with a blacked-out rig.
Key Highlights

- Fits a 2-1/2-inch receiver, with a 3-inch option for one-ton trucks
- Add or release air to set ride height for a light load or a maxed-out one

How Shocker HD Air Ride Works
An Air Spring Rated for the Full 20K
The HD multi-ply rubber air bag carries up to 20,000 lbs of trailer and still cushions the road shock that would otherwise beat on the truck and the cargo. Same air-ride guts as the HD Red, finished to match the matte-black chassis.
Tune It for Empty or Loaded
A heavy bumper-pull trailer can swing more than 1,000 lbs between empty and full. Air it up for a max-weight haul, then let it back down for the empty run home. The HD air bag has a wider usable pressure range than the 14K, so you have more room to dial it in.
Thicker Steel Where It Counts
It keeps the same external 8-hole geometry, so every Shocker ball mount still fits, and adds thicker-wall steel and reinforced welds rated for 20K loads, all wrapped in textured matte-black powder coat.
One Pivot, Nothing to Bind Up
Shocker's down-and-back motion rides on a single pivot, with no slides, rollers, or stacked airbags to fail, even at HD loads. Fewer moving parts under that kind of stress means a longer service life.
Why Buyers Choose HD Max Black
The top of the core line, heavy-duty and premium-finished at the same time.
- The heaviest bumper-pull rating Shocker makes, 20,000 lbs GTW
- Textured matte black hides scratches better than glossy or red finishes
- Matches blacked-out OEM packages on Ford, RAM, Chevy, and GMC one-tons
- A 3-inch receiver option matches dual-rear-wheel factory hitches
- Fits the same 20+ Shocker ball-mount attachments, black-matched where offered
- You do not have to trade capacity for looks
HD Max Black vs. Max Black 14K: What's Different
Same finish family, different capacity tier:
Bigger Air Bag, Thicker Walls
The 20K-rated HD air bag and reinforced steel walls take you up to 20,000 lbs GTW with 2,000 lbs of tongue weight, past what the Max Black 14K tier is built to carry. This is the one to grab when your loads climb over 14k.
A 3-Inch Receiver the 14K Does Not Have
HD Max Black comes in a 3-inch receiver for dual-rear-wheel one-ton trucks, a size the Max Black 14K does not offer.
Flip It for Drop or Rise
A trailer that rides nose-high or nose-low throws its weight onto one axle, and on a heavy bumper-pull load that shows up as uneven tire wear and a trailer that fights you. This Shocker HD Max Black Air Hitch & Raised Ball Mount w/ 2-5/16" Ball ships in a 2" Rise to 2" Drop ball-mount setup. Most Shocker ball mounts flip over to turn drop into rise, and the 8 adjustment holes let you fine-tune coupler height from there. Take the time to get it level, because a mismatched drop overloads either the front or rear axle of the trailer, and heavy trailers punish that the hardest.
Premium Finish on an HD Frame
Underneath, it is the same reinforced HD chassis as the Shocker HD 20K Red. The textured matte-black powder coat is built to fight UV fade, hide the micro-scratches you get sliding the shank in and out of the receiver, and hold up better than glossy finishes on salt-belt highways and gravel roads. Backed by Shocker Hitch's 60-day satisfaction guarantee.
