Stop destroying your trailer and cargo.
Every bump, pothole, and expansion joint sends a violent jolt through your trailer frame, damaging cargo and wearing out your truck. Shocker Air Ride Hitches absorb that punishment at the coupling, before it reaches your trailer.
When you're pulling near the top of what your truck can handle, every frost heave, expansion joint, and hard stop slams straight up through the receiver into your cab, your trailer, and whatever you've got loaded. The HD Max Black is built to take that hit for you. A heavy-duty air spring soaks up the jolt so a 20,000 lb GTW trailer rides smooth instead of chucking and bucking behind you, and it carries up to 2,000 lbs of tongue weight on a beefed-up HD chassis. It slides into the 2-1/2-inch receiver on F-250 and RAM 2500-class three-quarter-ton trucks (class V receivers), wrapped in a textured matte-black powder coat that looks right on a blacked-out rig. This is the base frame with pins, no ball mount, so you pick the attachment that fits your trailer. You get the capacity and the finish without giving up either one.

How Shocker HD Air Ride Works
The Air Spring Does the Heavy Lifting
A heavy-duty multi-ply rubber air bag carries up to 20,000 lbs of trailer behind you and still cushions the road shock before it reaches your truck and your cargo. It's the same air-ride engineering as the HD Red, finished to match the matte-black chassis.
Tune It to the Load You're Pulling
A heavy bumper-pull trailer can swing 1,000 lbs or more between empty and loaded, and a fixed hitch rides rough at one end of that range. Air up for the max-weight run, bleed it down for the empty deadhead. The HD airbag has a wider usable pressure range than the 14K.
Built to Take 20K
It keeps the same external 8-hole geometry so every Shocker ball mount still fits, but the steel is thicker-walled and the welds are reinforced to handle 20K loadings, all under a textured matte-black powder coat.
One Simple Pivot, Fewer Parts to Wear Out
Shocker's down-and-back motion runs on a single pivot, with no slides, rollers, or stacked airbags, even at HD loadings. Fewer moving parts under heavy stress means less to wear out and a longer service life.
Why Buyers Choose HD Max Black
Our top core line, with heavy-duty capacity and a premium finish in one hitch.
- Tops out the bumper-pull range at 20,000 lbs GTW
- Textured matte black hides scratches better than a glossy or red finish
- Matches blacked-out factory packages on Ford, RAM, Chevy, and GMC one-tons
- 3-inch receiver option lines up with dual-rear-wheel factory hitches
- Works with the same 20+ Shocker ball mounts, black-matched where offered
- You don't have to choose between capacity and looks
What HD Max Black Adds Over the 14K
Same finish family, a bigger capacity tier:
Heavier Airbag, Thicker Walls
The 20K-rated HD airbag and reinforced steel walls step up from the Max Black 14K to a full 20,000 lbs GTW with 2,000 lbs of tongue weight. It's the one to grab when your loads run past 14k.
A 3-Inch Receiver Option
HD Max Black comes in a 3-inch receiver for dual-rear-wheel one-ton trucks, a setup the Max Black 14K doesn't offer.
Flip It for Drop or Rise
This base frame ships with 8 adjustment holes for the ball mount. Most Shocker ball mounts are reversible, so you can flip the mount to turn drop into rise, or step through the 8 holes to fine-tune your coupler height. A heavy bumper-pull trailer is picky about sitting level. Ride nose-high or nose-low and you dump the weight onto the trailer's front or rear axle, so take the time to dial it in.
A Finish Built for the Salt Belt
It's built on the same reinforced HD chassis as the Shocker HD 20K Red. The textured matte-black powder coat is made to fight off UV fade, hide the micro-scratches you get sliding it in and out of the receiver, and outlast a glossy finish on salt-belt roads and gravel back roads. Backed by Shocker Hitch's 60-day satisfaction guarantee.
