A weight-distribution hitch levels your truck when a heavy tongue drags the back end down, but it does nothing for the chucking, the tugs, and the hard jolts that ride up through the ball on rough road. Those spring bars are rigid by design, so every frost heave and expansion joint punches straight into the cab and back into the trailer. This kit fixes that. It bolts the Air Equalizer airbag onto your existing or new WD hitch head, then mates it to the Shocker XR Extended Range base at your truck's receiver, so the air ride soaks up the shock the spring bars pass along. Rated at 12,000 lbs GTW and 1,200 lbs of tongue weight, which is real breathing room for travel trailers behind half-ton and 3/4-ton trucks. It fits most major WD brands. Pickup trucks only, not SUVs or CUVs with coil-over rear springs.

What's in the Kit and What It Does
Air Equalizer Airbag
The retrofit airbag that bolts onto the head of your weight-distribution hitch, existing or new. It soaks up the chucking and road shock that WD spring bars pass straight through on their own.
Shocker XR Extended Range Hitch
The base that mates the Air Equalizer to your truck's receiver. 8 adjustment holes give 7-8 inches of rise and drop range so you can level the trailer to your ball height. Ships with the receiver shank size you select.
WD Hitch NOT Included
Bring your own weight-distribution hitch head, or buy one separately. The Air Equalizer is the airbag. The WD hitch is the spring-bar-and-head system that mounts on top of it.
Two Hitch Pins With Clips
Both D-handle pins ship in the kit, one for the receiver shank and one for the WD-equalizer interface, so you're not chasing hardware on install day.

The Air Equalizer head bolts to any WD hitch head with a 2-1/2-inch or 3-3/4-inch center-on-center bolt pattern. If your hitch is on this list, it fits:

For travel trailers that need weight distribution to level the truck. It pairs an airbag with a WD spring-bar system, and it's the right pick when a heavy tongue drags the rear suspension down.
XR Extended Range Hitch (standalone)
The Shocker XR receiver-side air hitch sold without the Air Equalizer. Grab this one when you don't need weight distribution and just want air ride on the receiver.
Original Shocker Air Hitch (steel)
The standard 14K bumper-pull air hitch with no weight-distribution provision. Lighter trailers, lower price.
Light Duty 12K Tongue Mount
Air ride mounted on the trailer's A-frame instead of the truck. Handy when you tow with more than one truck. Not compatible with WD.
Important: Pickup Trucks Only
The Air Equalizer is built for pickup trucks with leaf-spring or hybrid rear suspensions (F-150, F-250, F-350, Silverado, Sierra, Ram 1500/2500/3500, Tundra, Titan, Colorado, Canyon, Tacoma, Frontier, Ridgeline). It will not work on SUVs, CUVs, or vans with coil-over rear springs. Those rear ends load a WD system differently, and the Air Equalizer's geometry is engineered around how a pickup's leaf springs behave. If you tow with an SUV or CUV, look at the Shocker Cushion Ball Mount line instead.
How to Set the Air Pressure
The airbag does the dampening and the WD spring bars still do the load leveling, so both have to work together. Hook up your trailer and engage your WD bars first. Then add air until the truck-side bump cushions are no longer compressed. If the trailer-side bump cushions start to compress, you've gone too far and need to let some out. Dial it in until both sets of cushions sit free. Those 4 bump cushions and the air bag together take the chucking, tugs, and jerks that WD bars alone send right into the cab. Owners report a much smoother ride on concrete highways and rough sealed roads.
