Simple Pivot Design

Uses a rocker arm pivot design which produces a front and back motion, much different than other cushion hitches on the market.

Fits Pickup Trucks Only

This is designed for pulling with a Pickup Truck - it will not work with SUV/CUVs with coil-over springs in the rear.

Adjustable & Heavy-Duty

12,000 lbs towing & 1,200 lbs tongue weight capacity plus 10 adjustment holes (5" of rise to 4" drop). Fine tuned for your towing weight. Just add air for heavier loads.

Smoother Safer Towing

Add bolt on air ride towing to your pickup & camper with an equalizer, weight-distribution hitch in minutes. (easily bolt your existing weight-distribution head to air equalizer).

Stop destroying your trailer and cargo.

Every bump, pothole, and expansion joint sends a violent jolt through your trailer frame, damaging cargo and wearing out your truck. Shocker Air Ride Hitches absorb that punishment at the coupling, before it reaches your trailer.

A weight-distribution hitch levels out a heavy tongue, but it still passes every tug, jerk, and highway chuck straight through to the truck. On concrete slabs and rough sealed roads that back-and-forth wears on you, on your rig, and on whatever is riding inside the trailer. This kit fixes that by adding air-ride dampening to the WD setup travel trailers already run behind half-ton and 3/4-ton trucks. The Air Equalizer airbag bolts to your existing or new WD hitch head, and it rides on the Shocker XR Extended Range receiver base for the truck-side connection. Rated for 12,000 lbs GTW and 1,200 lbs of tongue weight, and it fits most major WD brands. Built for pickup trucks only, not SUVs or CUVs with coil-over rear springs.

What's in the Kit and What Each Piece Does

Air Equalizer Airbag

This is the retrofit airbag, the part that does the smoothing. It bolts to the head of your weight-distribution hitch, existing or new, and soaks up the chucking and road shock that WD spring bars pass straight through on their own.

Shocker XR Extended Range Hitch

The base that ties the Air Equalizer to your truck's receiver. 8 adjustment holes give you 7 to 8 inches of rise and drop range, so you can dial the trailer level on whatever it sits on. Ships with the receiver shank size you pick.

WD Hitch NOT Included

Bring your own weight-distribution hitch head, or buy one separately. The Air Equalizer is the airbag, and the WD hitch is the spring-bar-and-head system that mounts on top of it. Two different parts that work together.

Two Hitch Pins With Clips

Both D-handle pins ship in the box, one to lock the receiver shank and one for the WD-equalizer interface. Nothing extra to hunt down before your first tow.

Fits Most Major WD Hitch Brands

Already own a WD hitch? Good chance it bolts right up. The Air Equalizer head mounts to any weight-distribution head with a 2-1/2-inch or 3-3/4-inch center-on-center bolt pattern. Verified to fit:

  • Fastway E2 (round bar and trunnion)
  • Equal-i-zer (the brand)
  • Reese (round bar and trunnion)
  • Husky and Pro Series
  • Torklift and Blue Ox round-bar systems
  • Camco Eaz Lift
  • Curt round-bar and Curt TruTrack/trunnion
  • Shocker XR-compatible WD hitches
  • NOT compatible with Andersen chain-style or B&W Continuum WD systems

Air Equalizer vs. Other Shocker Air Products

Not sure this is the right Shocker for your setup? Here's how the weight-distribution family lines up against the bumper-pull air hitches:

Option 1

Air Equalizer for WD (this product)

For travel trailers heavy enough up front that they need weight distribution to level the truck. Pairs an airbag with a WD spring-bar system. The pick when the tongue weight overwhelms your rear suspension.

Option 2

XR Extended Range Hitch (standalone)

The Shocker XR receiver-side air hitch sold without the Air Equalizer. Grab this when you don't need weight distribution and just want air ride on the receiver.

Option 3

Original Shocker Air Hitch (steel)

The standard 14K bumper-pull air hitch, no weight-distribution provision. For lighter trailers, at a cheaper price.

Option 4

Light Duty 12K Tongue Mount

Puts the air ride on the trailer A-frame instead of the truck. A different mounting strategy that makes sense when you tow with more than one truck. Not compatible with WD.

Important: Pickup Trucks Only

Before you buy, check what you tow with. The Air Equalizer is built for pickup trucks running leaf-spring or hybrid rear suspensions (F-150, F-250, F-350, Silverado, Sierra, Ram 1500/2500/3500, Tundra, Titan, Colorado, Canyon, Tacoma, Frontier, Ridgeline). It is NOT compatible with SUVs, CUVs, or vans on coil-over rear springs. Those suspensions react to WD systems differently, and the Air Equalizer's geometry is engineered around the way pickup leaf springs behave. Towing with an SUV or CUV? Look at the Shocker Cushion Ball Mount line instead.

How to Set the Air Pressure

Getting this right takes a couple of minutes and makes all the difference. The airbag and the WD spring bars each do their own job, the bars distribute the load and the airbag dampens the motion. Hook up your trailer and engage your WD bars first. Then air the hitch until the truck-side bump cushions are NOT compressed. If the trailer-side bump cushions squash down, you have too much air in it. Adjust until both sets of cushions ride free. Those 4 bump cushions and the air bag together soak up the chucking, tugs, and jerks that WD bars alone send straight into the cab. Owners report far smoother rides on concrete highways and rough sealed roads.
