It includes a heavy-duty replacement gooseneck pin box that fits Lippert 1716, 1116, and 0115 and FabEx 500, 503, 520, 530, and 560 pin boxes, the Shocker Gooseneck Surge air hitch, and a 3-inch forward-offset dual-latching Shift Lock coupler for a 2-5/16-inch gooseneck ball. Replaces Your Factory Pin Box

Your camper's factory 5th-wheel kingpin pin box comes off. The Shocker gooseneck pin box bolts in using your existing bolt holes — no welding, no drilling.

Adds Air Ride at the Connection

The Shocker Gooseneck Surge air hitch slides into the new pin box. Its built-in air bag absorbs the chucking, jerking, and bangs that 5th-wheel kingpin connections transmit straight into the truck cab.

Lets You Tow Gooseneck

The included dual-latching Shift Lock coupler hooks to any 2-5/16-inch gooseneck ball in your truck bed and latches securely when lowered onto the ball.

Full Kit vs. Other Camper Conversion Paths

Several paths exist to upgrade a 5th-wheel camper. This is the most complete:

Option 1

Full Conversion Kit (this product)

Gooseneck pin box + Shocker air hitch + dual-latching Shift Lock coupler. The complete bolt-on conversion to gooseneck towing — the default choice if you don't already own any of these parts.

Option 2

Hitch Only (replacement)

Just the air hitch and Shift Lock coupler. Choose this if you already own a Shocker gooseneck pin box and need to replace the upper assembly.

Option 3

Pin Box Only

Just the gooseneck pin box housing. The cheapest entry point — buy it now and add the air hitch and coupler later as a Phase 2 upgrade.

Option 4

Air Ride Kingpin Box

Stays as a 5th-wheel kingpin but adds air-ride dampening. Choose this if you don't want to convert to gooseneck and prefer to keep your existing 5th-wheel hitch in the truck bed.

Why Air Ride Matters Most on a 5th Wheel

5th-wheel campers transmit road shock as a forward-and-back chucking motion through the kingpin — the worst kind of jerk to feel inside the camper or the cab. The Shocker Gooseneck Surge air hitch is the only air ride hitch designed to work exclusively in that forward-and-back direction. The built-in air bag absorbs the chucking before it reaches the cabinets, slide-outs, dishes, or your spine. Owners report fuel savings of 1-2 mpg, less wear on the truck driveline, and a noticeably calmer ride.

Important: Safety Chains Sold Separately

Gooseneck towing legally requires safety chains. The Shocker gooseneck safety chain kit is required and sold separately. Your existing pin box bolts are reused — no new mounting hardware needed. A 2-5/16-inch gooseneck ball must already be installed in the truck bed (not included). Optional lock: the Shocker Shift Lock Gooseneck Coupler Lock with puck lock (SH-9000-315) is available separately.

Installation

Moderate — Some Experience~90 minutes

Support the front of the camper with a jack stand. Remove the factory 5th-wheel pin box (typically 6-8 bolts). Lift the new Shocker gooseneck pin box into place and reuse the factory bolts to fasten. Insert the air hitch stem and set the adjustment pin to height. Attach safety chains (sold separately). Inflate the air bag. Lower onto your truck-bed gooseneck ball and confirm the Shift Lock coupler latches.

Tools needed:

Socket wrench set (3/4" and larger) · Floor jack to support the front of the camper · Two adults recommended (pin box is heavy) · Tire-style air pump for initial inflation
