Easy Install

Completely replaces your factory gooseneck stem & coupler with Gooseneck Surge Air System & Coupler. Installs in Minutes.

Fits 3" gooseneck hitch balls

& has 3 height adjustment holes. (Standard coupler extends 3" forward from your factory coupler).

Custom Fit

Available for 100mm Square, 4" Square & Crank style gooseneck stems. - If you have a round stem, check out our Shocker Goose Air Hitch for 2-5/16" ball.

Shock Dampening & Absorbing Action

Effectively absorbs the jerking, tugging, bumps and damaging forces experienced when towing on rough roads & concrete highway with a typical hard connection.

Stop destroying your trailer and cargo.

Every bump, pothole, and expansion joint sends a violent jolt through your trailer frame, damaging cargo and wearing out your truck. Shocker Air Ride Hitches absorb that punishment at the coupling, before it reaches your trailer.

The Surge Air Gooseneck 40K Heavy Duty is the flagship heavy-duty gooseneck in the Shocker lineup — rated for 40,000 lbs GTW with 8,000 lbs of tongue weight, the highest capacities Shocker offers. The square-4-5-inch carries a patented Shift Lock coupler engineered specifically for 3-inch gooseneck balls. Built for hotshot operators, equipment haulers, and commercial heavy-duty towing where a 30K hitch isn't enough.

Key Highlights

  • 40,000 lbs GTW / 8,000 lb tongue weight — the highest in the Shocker lineup

  • Patent #'s 11,370,257 B1 and D898,628
  • Patented forward-back surge air absorption

  • Made in Jamestown, ND by Shocker Hitch USA

Why You'd Need 40K Capacity

Most gooseneck trailers top out around 25K–30K GTW and ride happily on the Standard 30K hitch. But if you're hauling heavy equipment — skid steers on tilt-deck goosenecks, multi-axle commercial trailers, oilfield equipment, hot shot loads pushing the upper end of Class 5 — a 30K-rated hitch leaves no margin. The 40K HD adds 10,000 lbs of GTW headroom and 2,000 lbs of tongue capacity, plus a 3-inch ball coupler matched to the larger balls used on 35K-class commercial gooseneck trailers. This is the hitch for operators who load heavy and tow daily.

Surge Air, Heavy-Duty Engineered

Forward-Back Motion Airbag

The same patented surge-air mechanism scaled for 40,000 lbs loads — a heavy-duty air spring absorbs the dominant forward-back jerk between truck bed and trailer stem.

Shift Lock for 3-inch Balls

Patented dual-side ball capture grips the 3" gooseneck ball from both sides simultaneously. Visual lock indicator shows engagement at a glance.

Heavy-Wall Stem Construction

Thicker-wall square-4-5-inch engineered for the higher load and the elevated tongue forces of heavy commercial hauling.

Adjustable for Any Load

Add air for fully loaded heavy hauls, release for empty deadhead returns. The same hitch tunes from peak load to bobtail.

Built for Heavy Commercial Use

If you're towing more than 30K with a gooseneck, this is your hitch.

  • Hotshot truckers running 35K-class commercial gooseneck trailers
  • Heavy equipment haulers with skid steer and excavator loads
  • Commercial industrial transporters
  • Oilfield, drilling, and construction equipment fleets
  • Operators with 3-inch ball trailers (Class 5 and up)
  • Any tow approaching the upper limits of Class 5 gooseneck capacity

3-inch Ball vs. 2-5/16-inch Ball

The 40K HD requires a 3-inch gooseneck ball — bigger and heavier than the standard 2-5/16-inch.

Option 1

3-inch Gooseneck Ball (this line)

Required for 40K HD operation. Larger contact surface, higher capacity. Common on commercial heavy-duty goosenecks and Class 5 equipment trailers.

Option 2

2-5/16-inch Gooseneck Ball (30K lines)

Standard for Class 4 and lower-end Class 5 trailers. Used on the surge-air-gooseneck-standard-30k, offset, and shift-lock lines. Cannot be used with this 40K hitch.

Engineered for Daily Heavy Hauling

Every component on the 40K HD is upsized over the 30K platform: thicker stem walls, larger pivot bushings, a higher-capacity airbag, and a coupler rated for 40,000 lbs of tow capacity and 8,000 lbs of tongue weight. This isn't a 30K hitch with a higher rating sticker — it's a different chassis built for operators who hit the upper limits of gooseneck towing daily. Backed by Shocker Hitch's lifetime frame warranty and 60-day satisfaction guarantee.

What's Included

  • Shocker 40K Gooseneck Surge Air Hitch with built-in heavy-duty airbag and dual bump cushions
  • square-4-5-inch heavy-wall replacement inner tube stem
  • Shift Lock coupler rated for 40,000 lbs on 3-inch ball
  • Schrader air valve
  • Installation instructions

Not Included

  • 3-inch gooseneck ball (must be installed in the truck bed; verify rating matches your load)
  • Air compressor or pressure gauge (sold separately)
  • Truck-bed reinforcement (verify your bed-mount rating supports 40K hauling)

Installation

Moderate — Some Experience~75 minutes

Verify your truck bed has a 3-inch gooseneck ball rated for at least 40,000 lbs. Unhook the trailer and raise the gooseneck on its jack. Pull safety pins from your factory inner stem and slide it out of the outer tube. Slide the Shocker square-4-5-inch heavy-wall stem in, align the height holes, re-pin. Inflate the airbag to recommended starting pressure for heavy loads. Drop onto the 3" ball and engage the Shift Lock handle — verify the visual lock indicator confirms full dual-side capture before pulling out.

Tools needed:

Socket wrench set · Hex key set · Floor jack or two-person lift (40K HD assembly is heavier than 30K variants)
