Instant Air Ride
Great for adding air ride to smaller trailers where the trailer & contents are under 12,000 lbs
Stop destroying your trailer and cargo.
Every bump, pothole, and expansion joint sends a violent jolt through your trailer frame, damaging cargo and wearing out your truck. Shocker Air Ride Hitches absorb that punishment at the coupling, before it reaches your trailer.
The Shocker Light Duty 12K Air Tongue Mount is the entry-point trailer-side air ride hitch for smaller bumper-pull trailers. Bolts directly to your trailer A-frame so the air ride goes with the trailer — every truck that hooks up gets a smoother tow. Rated up to 14,000 lbs GTW with tongue weight. Ideal for horse trailers, cargo trailers, utility trailers, and small dump trailers under 12,000 lbs. Sold as a base frame OR pre-paired with a coupler.
Key Highlights
- 14,000 lbs GTW with tongue weight — right-sized for sub-12K trailers
- Built-in 12K-rated air ride absorbs road shock at the trailer connection
- Square Plate Mount for direct fit on common A-frame trailers
- Available as base frame, or pre-paired with coupler
- Adjustable air pressure for loaded vs. empty trailer
- Air goes with the trailer — works with any tow vehicle
- Cheaper than the Heavy Duty 25K version when 12K rating is sufficient
- Made in Jamestown, North Dakota
How It Works
Built-In 12K Air Ride
A built-in air bag sits between the coupler and the trailer A-frame, absorbing road shock before it reaches your trailer frame, cargo, and tow vehicle. Right-sized for trailers under 12,000 lbs.
Adjustable for Any Load
Add or release air to fine-tune the ride for your trailer weight. Heavier load? More air. Empty utility trailer? Less air. Dial in the right pressure every trip.
Rocker Arm Pivot Design
The coupler pivots down and back on a rocker arm — no slides, rollers, or parallel linkages. Fewer moving parts means less maintenance and longer life.
Maximum Ground Clearance
The air ride system mounts above the trailer tongue, keeping ground clearance at a maximum for ramps, driveways, and rough launch sites.
Ideal For These Smaller Trailers
The 12K rating covers the vast majority of recreational and light-commercial bumper-pull trailers:
- Horse trailers (1-2 horse and small 3-horse)
- Cargo and utility trailers
- Small enclosed haulers and snowmobile trailers
- Light dump trailers and landscaping trailers
- Boat trailers with A-frame tongues
- Any A-frame bumper-pull trailer up to 14,000 lbs GTW
Two Mounting Geometries
Choose the variant that matches your trailer A-frame configuration:
Vertical Channel Mount (SH-4000 series)
Fits 3-1/2-inch wide vertical channel with 2-inch center-on-center bolt pattern. Secure with 5/8-inch pins or bolts (4-1/2 inches long recommended). Most common configuration for fabricated trailer A-frames.
Square Plate Mount, 4-Bolt (SH-4500 series)
4-1/2-inch square bolt pattern. Bolts directly to a flat plate on the trailer tongue. Simple 4-bolt installation. Common on factory-built utility, cargo, and horse trailers.
Coupler Sold Separately or Bundled
The Light Duty 12K is sold as a base frame OR pre-paired with a coupler. Recommended bundles include the Wallace Forge auto-locking 12K coupler (2-inch ball) or Demco bolt-on couplers. Important: total tow rating is limited by the lowest-rated component. If your coupler is rated 10K, your full system is rated 10K — not 12K. Match your coupler to your trailer GTW. The 1-inch 1045 medium-carbon steel center pivot bolt exceeds the strength of typical 5/8-inch coupler-mounting bolts.
Why Mount the Air Ride on the Trailer?
When the air ride lives on the trailer instead of the truck, every tow vehicle that hooks up benefits automatically. This matters most for owners who tow with multiple vehicles — your truck on weekdays, a family member's truck on weekends, a rental on vacation. The Light Duty 12K is the right choice when your trailer is under 12,000 lbs and you don't need the heavy-duty 25K headroom. Saves roughly $100-$300 over the HD version while delivering the same air ride benefits at the lower rating.
